How to Cure Halitosis - Understand What Causes Bad Breathe

If you are afraid to kiss, and you need know how to cure halitosis, then it is important to understand what causes bad breath. Not ‘garlicy’ breath, but real bad breath caused by bacteria, clinically termed halitosis.
The only thing worse than bad breath, it is said, is no breath at all!
If you eat garlic, then your breath stinks of garlic, except, it is said, if the person you are talking to has also been eating garlic, and then neither of you can smell it. It may be true, but I am yet to be convinced! There is nothing worse that dating somebody who has been eating garlic the night previously. It seems to take time to get through the system, but what they say must be true. If not the French race would have died out the day they discovered garlic!
However, halitosis, or bad breath as it is commonly called, is a different thing entirely. It is often claimed to be due to a failure to clean your teeth, or having bad teeth. In fact, there might be an element of that, but it is not the true reason for bad breath. Halitosis has more to do with the tongue than with the teeth. There are not many places in the teeth for bacteria to accumulate when compared to the tongue.
The tongue and cheeks are full of fissures and valleys, in which bacteria can reside and multiply. They live of food residues and emit sulphurous fumes that are detected by the human nose as halitosis. The stink can be dreadful, and even the most beautiful woman in the world has no chance if she is a sufferer. Yet, the truth of the matter is that it is not their fault. They have done nothing wrong. Sometimes it is the diet, and sometimes it is just bad luck.
Bacteria in the mouth can degrade food residues between the teeth, in the gums, in the cheeks and in the tongue. If you clean your teeth regularly, you will likely, but not necessarily, remove one of these causes. By brushing you are simply rubbing the bacteria away, and you never get rid of them. In order to kill the bacteria you have to know what they are.
In fact the bacteria that live in your tongue and deep within your gums and cheeks are what are known as anaerobic bacteria. That means that they live in absence of oxygen. It makes sense, doesn’t it, that if they are living in these places, there can’t be much oxygen around, and they thrive there. Aerobic means relating to oxygen, like aerobic exercises mean that you take in a lot of oxygen with your accelerated breathing. Anaerobic means no oxygen.
So how do you kill anaerobic bacteria? That’s right: expose them to oxygen. So, if you had a toothpaste or a mouthwash that soaked into your gums, tongue and cheeks, and generated oxygen, you would kill the bacteria. Bacteriologists agree on that, so it would work. That’s all you have to look for.
If you learn to understand what causes bad breath, and learn how to cure halitosis, you will have taken a major step to eradicating it. Smoking is not bad breath, and garlic does not cause halitosis. These are simply the normal smells associated with your smoking or eating habits. Halitosis is the smell of the waste products of bacterial putrefaction of waste food residues. These bacteria can be killed by oxygen, such as that found in your saliva, or oxygenated mouth washes.
